Magnetic Golf Towel Testing Standards: Retention, Cleaning & Durability

These standards define how Aiming Fluid Golf should document magnetic towel claims. They separate attachment, cleaning, durability and access so one impressive demonstration cannot substitute for complete product performance.

Standard: Every published result should identify the product, target surface, towel condition, procedure, number of trials, raw outcome and limitation. A result without those details is a demonstration—not a repeatable test.

Conflict disclosure: Aiming Fluid Golf designs and sells magnetic towels, Landing Pads and related accessories. Comparative testing should use the same protocol for every product, publish unsuccessful trials and avoid scoring criteria created after the result is known.

1. Retention testing

Minimum retention sequence

  1. Photograph and describe the target.
  2. Weigh the towel dry and after controlled wetting.
  3. Attach the magnet flat at a marked location.
  4. Run a static straight-pull baseline.
  5. Run a lateral-load trial.
  6. Run repeated vibration or route cycles.
  7. Repeat dry and wet at least three times.
  8. Publish the complete table of results and the test video.

2. Cleaning testing

Cleaning performance is different from absorption. A useful test should measure how much standardized debris remains on the clubface and how much is transferred back during later wipes.

Assess redeposition Use the same towel area on a clean reference surface and record transferred debris
Repeat wet and dry Test the towel new, damp and after repeated cleaning cycles

3. Wash and durability testing

  • Magnet housing and surrounding stitches
  • Scrub-pad edges and pocket seams
  • Loops, carabiners and hardware
  • Silicone cracking or separation
  • Microfiber matting, shrinkage and odor retention

Required reporting

  • Washer and dryer settings
  • Detergent and whether softener was used
  • Number of completed cycles
  • Measurements before and after
  • Photographs at defined intervals
  • Any functional failure, not only cosmetic wear

A durability claim should identify the cycle count actually completed. “Machine washable” does not mean the product has been validated indefinitely.

4. Docking and access testing

A towel system should be evaluated for how reliably a golfer can grab and return it—not only whether it holds when untouched.

  1. Mount the target in the position recommended for use.
  2. Perform at least 25 one-handed grab-and-return cycles.
  3. Record missed docks, partial contact, rotation and unintended release.
  4. Repeat while wearing a glove and with the towel damp.
  5. Check whether clubs, straps or cart structures interfere.

5. Scoring and pass/fail rules

How existing Aiming Fluid demonstrations should be described

  • 45+ MPH field language: a field-test target under the brand’s documented setup, not a guarantee for every surface, turn, impact or wet load.
  • Leaf-blower demonstration: an exaggerated airflow stress example, not a calibrated equivalent to cart speed.
  • Competitor comparisons: valid only when every product receives the same target, conditioning, sequence and repetitions.

Required test log

Every future test should publish the date, operator, products, samples, equipment, surface, environmental conditions, raw measurements, photos or video, deviations and limitations. Any sponsored or manufacturer-supplied product must be disclosed.

Frequently asked questions

Are these laboratory standards?

No. They are a public field and bench-test protocol intended to make Aiming Fluid claims more repeatable and transparent. A laboratory certification should identify the independent lab, calibrated equipment and formal standard used.

Why report migration if the towel does not fall?

Slow sliding is an early failure mode. A towel can remain attached during a short demonstration and still move far enough to release later in a round.

Can one test prove a towel is best?

No. Retention, cleaning, durability, access and compatibility answer different questions. A product can perform well in one category and poorly in another.
